Estamos no telhado de um loft de seis andares no Soho em uma tarde ensolarada. Enquanto o enólogo Nicolas Audebert serve uma segunda taça de seu Cheval des Andes 2007, os aromas do quase pronto para comer bife de chorizo do chef da vinícola Marcos Zabaleta de genuíno gado argentino flutuam de sua grelha enquanto terminamos o último de seu chimichurri com pães e chouriço empenadas.
E então, quando coloco meus lábios no vidro, a terra se move. E a mesa no telhado começa a tremer.
Audebert e eu olhamos um para o outro com aquele velho sentimento familiar - terremoto! - que mais tarde descobrimos que foi enviada da Virgínia para nós. Provavelmente não é o cenário, ou o vinho, ou nosso meio-dia churrasco - mas, ei, apenas dizendo ...
Cheval des Andes é o primo do Novo Mundo de linhagem francesa de alta linhagem. Foi fundada em 1999 e é co-propriedade de Pierre Lurton (diretor do Château Cheval Blanc e presidente do Château d'Yquem) e da Moët Hennessy Wine Estates. Apenas um vinho é feito de seu único vinhedo nas terras altas (pouco mais de 3.000 pés) perto de Vistalba, ao sul da cidade de Mendoza. Composta por 93 acres, cerca de 40 deles foram plantados em 1929 no Malbec. O resto também está em variedades clássicas de Bordeaux - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc e Petit Verdot.
Embora ele tenha misturado a safra de 2006, o 2007 - o lançamento atual - é a primeira vinificação completa para o Audebert nascido na Provença, cuja primeira vinificação foi em Champagne. Ele tem o porte atlético e a barba de três dias de um jogador de futebol profissional, mas seu esporte preferido é o pólo. “Temos um campo de pólo no meio do vinhedo no local onde decidimos não construir uma vinícola”, diz ele, em vez de usar uma instalação irmã, Terrazas, para a pequena produção de Cheval. Ele também explica a importância da altitude na ciclagem de ar quente e frio nos vinhedos no dia a dia, algo normalmente feito por grandes corpos d'água próximos. “Esta é a única grande região vinícola que não tem influência do oceano”, diz ele.
O 2007 é delicioso - fruta cereja brilhante na frente com notas salgadas e notas de tabaco no final e taninos suaves. “É difícil definir as diferenças entre salgados e verdes”, diz Audebert, mas decidimos que “ervas secas” se aproximam. Ele pula e anda pelo jardim do telhado - o loft é propriedade de amigos - e volta com alguns raminhos. “Freqüentemente encontramos alecrim em nossos vinhos”, diz ele, “e toques de casca de toranja”.
Claro, o Cheval des Andes combina muito bem com a carne grelhada por fora e malpassada por dentro. O chef Zaboleta está animado por ter encontrado carne autêntica, temperos e outros ingredientes autênticos da Argentina no El Gauchito em Elmhurst, Queens.
Mas da próxima vez, decidirmos, teremos que fazer nosso churrasco na vinícola de Mendoza e quem sabe assistir a uma partida de pólo. E também há terremotos lá.

Rubi profundo. O nariz é definitivamente terra. Começa super-funky, mas sopra um pouco e suaviza depois de uma hora ou mais de decantação. Sabores predominantes de terra, mas secundários são frutas vermelhas escuras, tabaco, um pouco de fumaça, flores.
Minha última garrafa, estarei procurando por mais.

Espero que seja apenas uma garrafa com defeito.
Nariz louro tabaco e terroso, que não era desagradável, mas quase sem fruta e muito terroso (não no bom sentido) na boca, com algumas notas graves de cogumelos e sem estrutura, boca muito aquosa.
Espero que seja apenas um engarrafado ruim e os 5 restantes de uma caixa comprada de um Arvi sejam melhores.

Não tenho certeza se eram garrafas com defeito ou não. Tinha dois em uma caixa de 6 agora ambos tinham um gosto simplesmente estranho.
Tive o 2013 duas vezes no ano passado e simplesmente adorei, ainda assim, essas garrafas. fungo? Desatualizado?

Cheval Blanc mais supps (E & amp M's nas rochas, Sydney): ameixas frescas, um pouco de terra recém-lavrada, chocolate, especiarias doces, notas de ervas muito maduras, carvalho polido está presente, mas controlado, uma nota de carne muito leve aparece com o tempo e o vinho fica mais saboroso. Na boca, a acidez sumarenta e o calor do álcool sustentam a fresca ameixa com uma lambida de natas e uma noz de manteiga, os taninos são finos, com textura talco e persistentes. O álcool dá uma nota quase mentolada ao final, mas não é intrusivo. OK.

Rubi profundo. Nariz de groselha preta, mirtilo, especiarias doces, cedro e creme. Tanino suave, corpo muito cheio de alto teor alcoólico. Um Grand Vin da Argentina, mas um verdadeiro vinho do Novo Mundo nada excitante. Um martelo escondido na bolsa de veludo.
Iria se beneficiar muito com mais adegas.

Isso é realmente indefinido agora. É confuso, mas parece ter bons ossos. Não senti nem mesmo um traço de bret em minha garrafa, então não entendi, mas entendo totalmente os comentários ácidos. Você pode sentir o cheiro do ácido cítrico ou tartárico. Mas este mesmo componente deve conservar este vinho por muito tempo e permitir que se desenvolva muito, muito lentamente, desde que a fruta agüente. Pode ficar parecido com o Rioja com o tempo. Eu diria que este é um para segurar por cerca de 7 anos antes de tocá-lo. Nunca será surpreendente, mas posso ver isso atingindo 93 em algum ponto. SEGURAR

Queria realmente gostar deste vinho. É cerca de um décimo do preço do Cheval Blanc. Aberto ontem e decantado. Derramou um pouco em um copo Riedel Vinum Bordeaux. Tudo o que pude sentir foi a acidez. Sem frutas, sem equilíbrio. Talvez em alguns anos esteja melhor. Bebeu um pouco da garrafa no segundo dia. A acidez não é tão prevalente, mas ainda não é boa. Restam mais 2 garrafas. Vou esperar alguns anos para ver se eles se fundem um pouco melhor. Talvez eu só tenha bebido uma garrafa. Esteja interessado em algum feedback.

Visitei a vinícola em Mendoza no mês passado. A degustação incluiu as safras de 2014 e 2016. A safra 2016 foi suave e elegante. Me lembrou de um vinho de Bordéus. Os aromáticos eram muito leves e focados. Notas de frutas vermelhas secas, pão torrado e especiarias de cozimento. Também experimentei a safra de 2017 inédita que recebeu 100 pontos. Os vinhos são muito parecidos mas o 2017 tem um pouco mais de complexidade e textura.

Visitei a vinícola em Mendoza no mês passado. A degustação incluiu as safras de 2014 e 2016. A safra 2016 foi suave e elegante. Me lembrou de um vinho de Bordéus. Os aromáticos eram muito leves e focados. Notas de frutas vermelhas secas, pão torrado e especiarias de cozimento. Também experimentei a safra de 2017 inédita que recebeu 100 pontos. Os vinhos são muito parecidos mas o 2017 tem um pouco mais de complexidade e textura.

Rubi profundo. O nariz é definitivamente terra. Começa funk uber mas golpes um pouco e doçuras fora depois de uma hora ou assim decantação. Sabores predominantes de terra, mas secundários são frutas vermelhas escuras, tabaco, um pouco de fumaça, flores.

Nariz louro tabaco e terroso, que não era desagradável, mas quase sem fruta e muito terroso (não no bom sentido) na boca, com algumas notas graves de cogumelos e sem estrutura, boca muito aquosa.
Espero que seja apenas um engarrafado ruim e os 5 restantes de uma caixa comprada de um Arvi sejam melhores.

Isso é realmente indefinido agora. É confuso, mas parece ter bons ossos. Não senti nem mesmo um traço de bret em minha garrafa, então não entendi, mas entendo totalmente os comentários ácidos. Você pode sentir o cheiro do ácido cítrico ou tartárico. Mas essa mesma componente deve preservar este vinho por um longo tempo e permitir-lhe desenvolver muito, muito lentamente, desde que os frutos se mantém. Pode ficar parecido com o Rioja com o tempo. Eu diria que este é um para segurar por cerca de 7 anos antes de tocá-lo. Nunca será surpreendente, mas posso ver isso atingindo 93 em algum ponto. SEGURAR

Queria realmente gostar deste vinho. É cerca de um décimo do preço do Cheval Blanc. Aberto ontem e decantado. Derramou um pouco em um copo Riedel Vinum Bordeaux. Tudo o que pude sentir foi a acidez. Sem frutas, sem equilíbrio. Talvez em alguns anos esteja melhor. Bebeu um pouco da garrafa no segundo dia. A acidez não é tão prevalente, mas ainda não é boa. Restam mais 2 garrafas. In the mouth juicy acidity and alcohol warmth support the fresh plummy fruit with a lick of cream and a knob of butter, tannins are fine, talc textured and persistent. This is really nondescript right now. Its confused but it seems to have good bones. I did not sense even a trace of bret in my bottle so I don't get that, but I totally get the acidic comments. You can smell the citric or tartaric acid. But this very component should preserve this wine for a long time and allow it to develop very, very slowly, provided the fruit holds. Might become Rioja like with time. I would say this is one to hold for about 7 years before you touch it. Will never be astonishing, but I can see this hitting 93 at some point. HOLD

Very well integrated wine. Strong tannic structure, but zesty and exciting. the fruit is there, but not overwhelming. It leaves room to taste the licorice and dusty earth. Every sip shows more. Also thinking it can stand a few more years in the cellar.

Wanted to really like this wine. It's about a 10th of the price of Cheval Blanc. Opened yesterday and decanted. Poured a splash into a Riedel Vinum Bordeaux glass. All I could taste was acidity. No fruit, no balance. Maybe in a few years it will be better. Drank some from the decanter the 2nd day. The acidity not as prevalent, but still not good. Have 2 more bottles left. Will wait a few years see in they meld together a little better. Maybe I just had an off bottle. Be interested in some feedback.

I visited the winery in Mendoza last month. The tasting included the 2014 and 2016 vintage. The 2016 vintage was soft and elegant. Reminded me of a Bordeaux wine. The aromatics were very light and focused. Notes of dried black berries, toasted bread and baking spices. I also tried the unreleased 2017 vintage that received 100 points. The wines are very similar but the 2017 has a little more complexity and texture.

Blond tabacco and earthy nose, which was not unpleasant, but almost no fruit and very earthy (not in a good way) in mouth, with some serious mushrooms notes and without structure, very aqueous mouth.
Hope it's just a bad bottled and the remaining 5 from a case bought a Arvi's will be better.

Not sure if it were flawed bottles, or not. Had two out of a case of 6 now both tasted simply weird.
Had the 2013 twice last year and absolutely loved it, yet these bottles. fungus? Stale?

This is really nondescript right now. Its confused but it seems to have good bones. I did not sense even a trace of bret in my bottle so I don't get that, but I totally get the acidic comments. You can smell the citric or tartaric acid. But this very component should preserve this wine for a long time and allow it to develop very, very slowly, provided the fruit holds. Might become Rioja like with time. I would say this is one to hold for about 7 years before you touch it. Will never be astonishing, but I can see this hitting 93 at some point. HOLD

Very well integrated wine. Strong tannic structure, but zesty and exciting. the fruit is there, but not overwhelming. It leaves room to taste the licorice and dusty earth. Every sip shows more. Also thinking it can stand a few more years in the cellar.

Wanted to really like this wine. It's about a 10th of the price of Cheval Blanc. Opened yesterday and decanted. Poured a splash into a Riedel Vinum Bordeaux glass. All I could taste was acidity. No fruit, no balance. Maybe in a few years it will be better. Drank some from the decanter the 2nd day. The acidity not as prevalent, but still not good. Have 2 more bottles left. Will wait a few years see in they meld together a little better. Maybe I just had an off bottle. Be interested in some feedback.

[This vendor's $69.95 puts it in the TOP 10% of wine-searcher's postings!]
™I certainly *can't* rule out frt currently masking the structure of this, PARTICULARLY since @ least 3 of the "pros" cited above advise MORE cellar time than even my "Deserves".

I visited the winery in Mendoza last month. The tasting included the 2014 and 2016 vintage. The 2016 vintage was soft and elegant. Reminded me of a Bordeaux wine. The aromatics were very light and focused. Notes of dried black berries, toasted bread and baking spices. I also tried the unreleased 2017 vintage that received 100 points. The wines are very similar but the 2017 has a little more complexity and texture.

This is really nondescript right now. Its confused but it seems to have good bones. I did not sense even a trace of bret in my bottle so I don't get that, but I totally get the acidic comments. You can smell the citric or tartaric acid. But this very component should preserve this wine for a long time and allow it to develop very, very slowly, provided the fruit holds. Might become Rioja like with time. I would say this is one to hold for about 7 years before you touch it. Will never be astonishing, but I can see this hitting 93 at some point. HOLD

Very well integrated wine. Strong tannic structure, but zesty and exciting. the fruit is there, but not overwhelming. It leaves room to taste the licorice and dusty earth. Every sip shows more. Also thinking it can stand a few more years in the cellar.

I visited the winery in Mendoza last month. The tasting included the 2014 and 2016 vintage. The 2016 vintage was soft and elegant. Reminded me of a Bordeaux wine. The aromatics were very light and focused. Notes of dried black berries, toasted bread and baking spices. I also tried the unreleased 2017 vintage that received 100 points. The wines are very similar but the 2017 has a little more complexity and texture.
